OF course you’ve seen & heard all about beauty fridges, girl- SAME. They are all the rage these days & for the longest time I was anti-beauty fridge. Like, they were bugging me. My skincare was the fine the way it was. It looked like a toy. Took up valuable space & for what- being boujee with your chilled serum?
It was a hard no for me, for a long time. People were messaging me telling me I NEEDED a skincare fridge because I am so obsessed with skincare, & I would just poo-poo the idea. Then- quarantine happened, & isolation makes you do crazy things…
… that combined with Walmart putting the Frigidaire mini fridge on sale for $20 (there is only ONE left in blue. I will link a bunch more at the end of this post!) & next thing you know, I’m hitting add to cart. I honestly can’t remember the last time I’ve been this excited for product to come. I was checking tracking DAILY & within a few days, my brand new tiny beauty fridge arrived.
& when I say tiny, I mean TINY. Which was a pleasant surprise. I assumed it’d be bigger & was worried about how much space it’d take up, but it’s so cute & SO small. I plugged the bad boy in, loaded in all my fave skincare products, & went to bed early cause I was so excited about the following morning.
When I woke up, that baby was COLD & I started my go-to skincare routine. The second I pumped that icy vitamin C onto my skin, I instantly transformed into the chilled skincare loving boujee bitch that I feared becoming right before my own eyes. AND IT FELT SO GOOD. Moving forward, my day will not start until I have had an icy spritz of antioxidant spray, a swipe of cool undereye cream, & a massage with a cool rose quartz roller. The new normal!
BUT ALSO- it’s been doing wonders for my skin in general. LET’S BREAK IT DOWN….
HERE ARE ALL THE REASONS WHY YOU NEED A BEAUTY FRIDGE
1. extends the shelf life of your pricey products:
so, for the most part, skincare is made to last- but there are a handful of skincare products that will go bad & in my experience, my fancier/more “clean” products are the ones that seem to go bad the quickest, & the priciest! I want those bad boys to last.
Keeping your skincare cool will kill any bacteria growth (ew) & keep your skincare products fresher, longer. ALSO- Retinols, vitamin C, & any skincare product with prebiotic’s are known for having a short shelf life. Even if you don’t have a mini fridge, keep those in your regular fridge always.
2. helps your products penetrate deeper into your skin
there is some drama around this statement in regards to beauty fridges. LET ME EXPLAIN. Your products are ABSOLUTELY fine at room temp & will absorb great. The fridge doesn’t make ALL skin products absorb better into your skin- BUT they say if the product is gel or water based, you will notice better penetration.
I’ve personally have gotten into the habit of patting/kinda slapping my products into my skin (it’s a Korean skincare technique) & I REALLY notice the absorption when I do this. My skin gets all bouncy & plump as I am apply. It’s pretty amazing.
3. chilled skincare products & tools soothe irritated skin
I am a picker. There is not getting around it. At night, after I shower, I give my skin a 5 minute pick session. I am not proud of this, but I give myself those 5 minutes to extract things that don’t exist & then I am done. When I am done, I am so red & blotchy. It gets to the point that I don’t even want go in the living room because Zack can obviously tell I went to town on my face. 10 OUT OF 10 DO NOT RECOMMEND picking your face, but if the habit is already formed- I feel you.
Get a beauty fridge. I do my 5 minutes of picking, then do my chilly nighttime skincare routine, & by the time I am done I am looking FRESH FACED AF.
4. helps to reduce puffiness and inflammation
I don’t know about you guys, but I am one puffy bitch in the morning… but my NEW morning routine has been doing wonders on me. I start off with this Vitamin C serum, then my favorite Versed “the fix” eye mask, my go to Drunk Elephant Lala Retro moisturizer, & I finish it off with a spritz of antioxidant spray and a GOOD facial massage using a chilled rose quartz facial roller or my gua sha tools.
… & lemme tell ya, my sister & I FaceTimed while I did this routine the other day & the girl almost fell off her seat when she saw one eye versus the other. It was like two different eyes- one bright and smooth, the other looking like I just got punched in the eye. It was shocking & if I wasn’t so insecure about my undereye situation, I would’ve totally shown you.
5. it feels SO damn good
period. end of story. I am never going back. My skincare routine has forever changed & I MUST SAY- my skin has not looked this good in ages. My pores are small, my acne is clear, puff is gone, & I’m feeling like a brand new bitch!!!
WHAT I KEEP IN MY BEAUTY FRIDGE (& what not to put in there)
♡ Drunk Elephant C-Firma vitamin c day serum: always keep vitamin C in your skin fridge, it absorbs better & lasts longer.
♡ Drunk Elephant A-Passioni Retinol cream: retinol creams should always go in the fridge as they are known for having a short shelf life.
♡ Drunk Elephant Lala Retro cream: I kept an eye on this one in the fridge, but it ended up being GREAT. It’s such a thick luxurious cream, the cold is just an added bonus.
♡ Versed “The Fix” Undereye Mask: A cold eye cream is a must for morning puff.
♡ eye mask patches: & when the cold eye cream isn’t doing enough on your tired eyes, pull out the big guns with a chilly undereye patch mask.
♡ Lapcos pearl sheet mask: my all time favorite sheet mask got EVEN better when cold. I love to wear a cold sheet mask while in the hot bath. It’s dreamy.
♡ Mario Badescu cucumber, aloe, & green tea spray: ahhhh- just writing about this one makes me feel refreshed. I LOVE a spritz. I really love a cold spritz.
♡ rose quartz facial roller & rose quartz gua sha tools: facial massage is forever changed for me. There is nothing quite like the cold chill of rose quartz on the skin. I LOVE IT.
♡ WHAT NOT TO PUT IN YOUR BEAUTY FRIDGE: clay products, mascara, most makeup, oils, & some moisturizers/serums (always keep an eye out for seperation in your products!).
