WELL- things have changed since the last time we spoke wedding & I feel like we are actually the worst wedding planning duo of all time (PRAISE BE we have Nicole from Exhale Events or we’d be literally drowning!). AGAIN- I was not born with this bridal gene.
So, we’ve ALWAYS talked about getting married Copenhagen. Copenhagen is our place, it’s where we are really our most carefree selves & we have always wanted to show the beautiful city to our families. When we got engaged, Copenhagen was it. I wasn’t budging no matter how much push back I was getting, & I was getting A LOT of push back.
I was being my very stubborn Leo self about this whole Copenhagen thing. I didn’t want to come up with another plan because a big wedding here in San Diego was just not what we were envisioning. We wanted it to be in a place significant to us, we wanted it to be intimate with only our nearest & dearest, & I personally really really really didn’t want 20 cameras on me walking down the aisle (for some reason, the thought of this was stressing me the eff out). We wanted the ceremony to be intimate & meaningful.
Initially, we started brainstorming for a smaller sized Copenhagen wedding, but quickly that smaller size got to around 45 people & I started to freak out. Then people started feeling bad that they probably couldn’t make it, & I felt bad. Some of my closest friends were finding the trip not feasible for them, & it was making them feel guilty/left out.
Well, we definitely didn’t want that either!!!
So- we were set on Copenhagen but also wanted to celebrate with our friends. We considered eloping to Copenhagen with just the two of us & have a party later, but to get married without our families also felt icky to us. SO- here is what we have decided:
WE ARE STILL GETTING MARRIED IN COPENHAGEN (!!!), but we are only inviting our immediate family & 3 friends each. If the friends can come great, if not, NO WORRIES because… we are now planning an EPIC reception in San Diego. We are getting married at Copenhagen City Hall & we will have a nice celebratory dinner after the wedding with our group. We will also have a “rehearsal dinner” in Copenhagen & a farewell brunch after the wedding, along with a few fun group events.
THEN- the rager will happen when we are home & everyone can come to celebrate with us!
This format works so much better for us because we get our intimate ceremony in our favorite city AND we get to party with everyone after (& the party will be a totally different vibe from the wedding, which I can’t wait for you to see cause it’s gonna be so sick!!). Luckily we have the most AMAZING wedding planner, HUGE shoutout to Nicole at Exhale Events, who has stepped up big time to make both of these events amazing. She even mentioned, while talking to us, we both sound so much lighter & more relaxed now. I am not gonna lie- I wasn’t feeling as excited as I should prior to finally make this plan. I was stressed & anxious about all the dynamics, so it’s nice to finally feel relaxed so that I can start getting EXCITED!
