I mean, if you guys don’t already know my obsession w/ Amazon, where have you been? Honestly I LOVE AMAZON. I talk about my love for Amazon all the time. This post, actually… no post I have ever written about Amazon, has been sponsored. I am a die hard Amazon shopper. Shit, I even order Q-tips on Amazon… because by the time I put it on my to-do list to buy Q-tips & actually make it to the store, my Amazon order would have arrived. Time is money, & Prime shipping gives me life.
Seriously though- I buy EVERYTHING on Amazon, including my clothes. People are always a little shocked when I say, “oh, you like these pants? WELL GUESS WHAT- got ’em on Amazon for $30 bucks”. I feel like Amazon needs a little more credit when it comes to the clothes & I am happy to give it, because there are some real gems on there (& they always have stuff that is sold out elsewhere!).
I get it though, online shopping is hard enough, & online shopping for clothes on Amazon can feel like a gamble. Are the reviews paid for (i.e. “my wife loves this.” could very probably be a paid review)? Will the quality be shit with this pricetag? Is this sizing guide accurate? Will it even fit?
Dude, I’ve been there, but I just figured I would start & learn from my mistakes. I received this two piece cropped sweatshirt + sweat skirt (like sweatpants, but a skirt) a few days ago & it is absolute shit. Paper thin, crunchy almost, & is literally made for a 12 year old. LESSON LEARNED- less than 10 reviews, don’t trust.
On the other side of the coin, I got my favorite swimsuit I ever owned for $15. You win some, you lose some I guess!
I have had a handful of lessons learned when shopping on Amazon, so today I am sharing with you guys some of my top tips for buying bad ass clothes, that are quality & affordable, on the magical treasure trove that is Amazon.
the fashionlush guide to buying clothes on Amazon
i. Get Prime
This one is easy. Prime is life. It is $100 a year, and the best $100 you will spend. I swear. Shipping is free & comes in two days, & returns are FREE. Even if you’re a pro Amazon shopper, returns will happen so makes it easier.
ii. Read the Reviews… but be smart about reviews
First thing I do is hit up the reviews… but I am very very picky when it comes to reviews. Anything to generic I ignore because it’s probably a paid review.
If it has ZERO reviews it’s an absolute NO, if it has very few reviews (even if all positive) it’s still probably a no, if has a ton of 5 star reviews I really have to investigate. Immense amount of “this is great” reviews makes me feel concerned they are fake. I use the search function to search for certain terms (i.e. fabric, sizing, whatever I want to know more about) & I also filter by star ratings. I like to look at the 1 star ratings to see what people hate. Also, I go directly to the photos because if there is a photo attached not only can you see how it looks on, but you pretty much can guarantee it’s not a fake review.
iii. Know Your Measurements
This is actually important for all online shopping, but especially for Amazon. Last time I was at the alterations I had them take my measurements & now I have them saved as a little note on my computer for all my online shopping. If I am ever torn on a size on Amazon, you can ask the seller a question & reference your measurements so they can help you decide!
iv. Brand Name & Designer Shopping
alright, so for this post I am really talking more about brands you never heard of. Finding those real hidden gems, BUT… if you’re a brand name girl ALWAYS check Amazon if you can find it for cheaper or with free shipping. You can find just about any brand name item on Amazon, & even if it’s the same price, if it is Prime eligible you can atleast get shipping for free. I order a ton of designer sunglasses on Amazon!
v. Related Items + Bookmarking
Typically shopping for clothes on Amazon shopping is a tunnel for me. I find a sweater I love, this one, & then I view related products or “customers also bought” products & end up down a rabbit hole of amazing stuff. As I am finding all these new sellers on Amazon, I bookmark like crazy so I can reference them later for new arrivals.
vi. Bonus tip: Boys Sneakers are Where it’s At
This is my absolute favorite new hack I learned at a 2 year olds bday party. One of the mom’s was rocking the raddest Nike sneakers & I asked where she got them- she said boys section!!! I immediately went to Amazon that night & found them (all of the Balenciaga feels!!!), did a size comparison by Googling “Nike boy shoe size for women”, read the reviews to see if I needed to size up or down (surprisingly, a lot of the reviews were from women buying boys shoes!). They look exactly like the women’s version, but $30 cheaper! Steal of a deal man. I haven’t gotten them yet, should be here tomorrow, but am definitely gonna be buying tons more boys sneakers in the near future.
