So, after I did my post on Oil Pulling, I was getting asked over and over and over again- “How do you use coconut oil for hair growth?’.
I get it. Trust. This may be superficial, but one of my lifelong goals is to have long long long Rapunzel-esque hair. I can’t help but stare hard when I see someone with a head of long flowing Pantene hair. I try not to be jealous of people (it’s not a classy trait), but that is one thing that absolutely turns me green with envy.
So, when it comes to hair I have seriously tried every chemical-filled product that promises mermaid hair on the market, & guess what? Fail after fail after fail.
Not surprised really, it’s always the natural DIY products that end up doing me any good, so I did my research & a few months back I stumbled upon a hair mask that has literally changed my hair game.
You’re welcome ;) xx, E
:: Ingredients / Why they work!! ::
++ 2 tsp. Olive Oil: Olive Oil is great great great for your hair & it’s growth for a few reasons.
○ It helps to prevent the production of an icky hormone called DTH which is a big culprit in hair loss & thinning.
○ It also helps keep your scalp healthy as it is loaded with antioxidants (which can even reverse damage from hot tools/hair products).
○ Lastly, massaging it into your scalp helps blood circulation which will stimulate the hair follicles & promote thicker/healthier hair.
++ 2 tsp. Coconut Oil: Oh ya know- just my all time favorite thing ever.
○ It helps seal in the moisture in your hair which keeps it strong & moisturized. Coconut Oil is magical in the sense it can actually penetrate the shaft of your hair, getting it moisturized from the inside out. That moisture can protect your hair from heat damage & environmental impurities.
○ Coconut Oil’s anti-bacterial & anti-fungal properties actually protect the scalp from dandruff & head lice (ew) which are 2 things that can greatly halt your hair growth.
○ It’s full of nutrients like vitamin E, vitamin K, & Iron. All of which are key in keeping your hair soft & shiny. Vitamin E is also helpful in preventing & getting rid of dandruff, which as I said before- can really stop your hair from growing.
○ Again, just like Olive Oil, Coconut Oil when massaged into your scalp can stimulate circulation which will make your hair healthy & promote growth.
++ 1 tsp. Honey: Who knew honey wasn’t just for a cup of tea…
○ Honey is a natural antioxidant that can help provide you with a healthy scalp, & a health scalp stimulates hair growth.
○ Since honey is an emollient, it will also help improve the health of your hair follicles. Hair follicles are actually responsible for hair growth, so making sure they are healthy is key.
○ Honey is also a humectant, which means it can hold in moisture which also helps promote a healthy & moisturized scalp as well as strong hair follicles, all of which prevent hair from falling out.
++ 1/2 Avocado: My favorite food, in my hair?! Yup.
○ For your hair to be healthy, which promotes growth, you need healthy fats & proteins. Avocados are literally FULL of healthy fats, omega-3, and biotin (i.e. the hair vitamin).
WHEW- that’s a lot of info. But now you know why this little magic potion will make your hair healthy, strong, & super duper long!!!
++ Mash all of your ingredients together, or if you want- put them in a food processor! ++
++ 15-20 minutes should be ideal, but if you want… go longer, it will only help. Use this mask 1x a week for optimal results! ++
