Faux Fashionlush Spotlight: Cara Delevingne

cara delevingne

I am so so so obsessed with Cara delevingne. You know, the VS model that is always making a weird face, has the best brows ever, and is more often than not wearing a beanie? She is def. my style icon of the moment. She is like a chic tomboy, and I dig it. Swag for dayz.

She is a big time model, so unfortunately I didn’t get a first hand interview (one day!!), but I did find 2 really rad interviews from the lady herself. She is so cool and she has a British accent, which makes her even cooler.

(( INTERVIEW WITH FASHION TELEGRAPH ))

FT: How were you ‘discovered’?
CD: I’ve been best-friends with Genevieve Garner, daughter of Sarah Doukas [CEO of Storm Model Mangagement] since I was five. Sarah saw me when she came to our school and Gen introduced us. I had never thought about modelling before, and it just happened.

FT: Have you always been into fashion?
CD: It depends how you define fashion. When I was really small my mother had difficulty keeping me dressed, as I liked to be naked! I definitely had very strong ideas on what I wanted to wear. My favourite look was always Action Man and Spiderman. Now though, I really like beautiful clothes.

FT: Labels you can’t live without?
CD: I love Christopher Bailey and Burberry, Mulberry for bags, and Hudson for jeans. I like a little bit of designer, with a bit of vintage and high street mixed in. I love it when you find those one off key pieces, which end up becoming investment pieces. I always go for comfort, and like feeling confident and casual.

FT: What is your fail-safe outfit?
CD: Jeans, a cool vintage shirt, and my Burberry leather jacket. I love a vintage look that’s also a bit rock & roll.

FT: Tell us about shooting the Burberry campaign…
CD: Obviously it was amazing, and I’ve become friends with everybody who did both campaigns. The shoot was a joy. Working with Mario Testino was a joy. He’s very young spirited, and it’s always lovely and a pleasure to spend time talking to him about all different things.

FT: What’s it like to enter the same industry as your sister?
CD: Poppy has always been so supportive to me. It was strange in the beginning with both us working in the same industry, but she has always helped me and is always there for me with advice. It helps that we are both quite similar people, and we are very close.

FT: Any other passions you would like to follow?
CD: I like fashion, but I love, love, love music and film, they are my two passions. I would love to pursue my acting and my love of music more than anything.

FT: Standout shoot so far?
CD: Hmmm, probably the Burberry shoot. Looking back I thought it would be really scary, but it actually felt so normal on set. It was the beginning of a chapter for me, a breakout shoot.

FT: Most exciting/mundane parts of your job?
CD: On the one hand I love the unpredictability of the routine, the opportunity to be in so many different places in one week, but that’s also the weirdest thing about it. The unexpected halt to the routine after several weeks of travelling and meeting so many lovely and interesting people.

FT: Best thing to come out of your job?
CD: Probably my trip to the Turks and Caicos Islands. It was so beautiful there, but I only stayed for 24 hours, which was a shame.

FT: Is there one job that you would love to get?
CD: I would just love to get a Vogue cover, and of course I love all advertising campaigns!

FT:Most inspiring person you’ve worked with?
CD:I loved working with Axel Lindahl, the videographer. He’s such an amazing cameraman and director and has this incredible way of working where he captures everything. He shoots with these enormous heavy cameras, that should sit on tripod stands, but he just carries them on his shoulders the whole time. He has great vision and captures all the movement.

FT: Do you have a hidden talent?
CD: I’m a world class Beat Boxer, you should hear the noises I can make with my mouth… I’m also obsessed with drumming and have a massive electric drum kit in my bedroom, I’m drum mad.

FT: What’s your plan B?
CD: If I was rich enough, I would love to launch my own record label. I would love to try and give all my musically talented friends a start in the industry.

FT:When you were 5, you wanted to be…?
CD: Action Man, Spiderman, or a cab driver.

FT: Most beautiful woman of all time?
CD: In real life it would be Jourdan Dunn. She’s like a goddess, so stunning; she’s just the most luminously beautiful person. And Angelina Jolie, who I’ve never met, but who I think is very striking and cool.

FT: Most stylish?
CD: Can I say two girls please? Alexa Chung, and also my friend Coco Sumner. Both because they have their own individual style and have remained true to it. I think it’s really important to stay true to yourself.

FT: Favorite workout song?
CD: Eye Of The Tiger by Survivor
