Last Minute Chic & Minimal DIY Gift Wrap Idea

I don’t celebrate Christmas, but Zack does, & now that we live together, getting all Christmas-y has been quite the thrilling experience.

First came the tree, which was VERY exciting for me. This was my first tree shopping trip ever, & I had no idea how serious it was. Zack basically turned into an experienced lumber jack carefully analyzing all the trees details. Was it fresh? How’d it smell? What was the shape? How about the height? Was it full? Sparse? The guy at the nursery seemed to be pretty keen to his picky process, so I just went along with it, smelling trees & shit.

Once we got home & unwrapped our seemingly perfect tree, we realized the poor thing was crooked AF. Poor Zack spent a while trying to straighten the thing out, but it wasn’t happening. OH well though, we aren’t perfect, so how could we judge our tree for not being so either? Right?

ANYWAYS, after all of that tree drama, we went straight to the store to load up on twinkle lights, string pearls, candy canes, & a some starter ornaments. Zack & I played a little game when it came to our the first few ornaments. I went outside while he chose an ornament & then vice-versa. When we got home, we hung them on either side of the tree & then surprised eachother with our picks. I got a tiny white fuzzy deer, & Zack got a grey spotted fuzzy deer + a white fuzzy polar bear (Bitzy’s pick, according to him).

So presh, our first xmas tradition!

The tree was still pretty bare, so I felt the need to fill it with presents ASAP… but empty ones. Why empty presents wrapped beautifully you ask? Well, because I celebrate Hanukkah & already gave all my gifts & Zack still hasn’t gotten a lot of his yet (he is the polar opposite of me, mister last minute Larry). It’s about aesthetics when it comes to Xmas, & there is nothing festive about a tree with no presents.

Thanks to my Amazon addiction, I had plenty of empty boxes to fill up the tree plus a chic DIY gift wrap project I couldn’t wait to do. I grabbed some black & white paper rolls (found on Amazon) & got to splattering. You can check out all of the how-to deets here, but the finished product pretty much explains itself! It was super easy to do, & gave our tree that minimalist vibe I love.

The last finishing touch, was some matching ball ornaments to fill up all of the remaining empty space on the tree. Using the same DIY steps for the wrapping paper project, we made white splattered ornaments.

All in all, I am turning into quite the festive lil’ holiday homemaker, & I am quite proud of myself (even if Zack has to open empty presents come Christmas morning). x, E
