Hygge (pronounced hue-gah) is a Danish word that describes a feeling of coziness. In America, you get that feeling on a rainy day snuggled up on the couch with candles lit, in Denmark… you get that feeling 24/7.
People say it’s actually Hygge that makes Denmark the happiest country in the world, which you can read more about via the Copenhagen Happiness Research Institute website (yes, it’s a thing), & I just can’t fight that Danish feeling.
Once I learned about Hygge, a lightbulb went off in my head. That feeling of coziness is my absolute favorite feeling in the world, so it all makes sense as to why I am so obsessed with Copenhagen. You can literally be in the middle of a busy street & still feel the Hygge. It’s just something in the air/water/bomb ass organic food (99% of all the food is certified organic & 100% GMO free— another reason this country is so damn happy!!).
It’s been a bit rainy out since we’ve been here, but that doesn’t stop anyone in this city, it actually only adds to the charm/Hygge. Since I wasn’t well prepared for the weather, I stocked up on some cozy knits in Malmö (at the best H&M I’ve ever been to!) & have been living in this chunky salt & pepper beauty ever since… you’ve probably already seen it on my Insta atleast 3x so far. Sorry, but re-wearing on vacay is bound to happen/totally acceptable. Yes? I am hoping the sun comes out at some point so I can rock some of the sunnier looks I planned!
x, E
p.s. thinking about Hygge as a potential tattoo idea, thoughts? It’s just my fave feeling everrrrr.
