baking soda, beauty tips, fashionlush, diy beauty

Are you guys ready for the beauty hack of the century? Cause quite literalllllly, this post is about to change your beauty game big time, & it’s pretty much the most simple (& cheapest) thing ever.

Baking Soda.

Yah, the white stuff in your fridge that keeps it from getting stinky is my all time beauty savior/holy grail/BFF.

With all the money I’ve spent on the latest & greatest beauty products promsing whiter teeth/softer hair/smoother skin, I end up relying most on the stuff that’s a dollar. Go figure.

… & just so you know, Arm & Hammer is most def. NOT paying me to write this (that’d be weird). All of these lil’ hacks I’m sharing are based off of straight up experience, & we all know there is no better teacher than that.

Read on, take notes, save your money, & load up on baking soda.

8 BAKING SODA BEAUTY HACKS

1. Dry Shampoo: Coming from a girl who isn’t keen on washing her hair often (2x a week tops), I rely big time on dry shampoo, but def. NOT the store bought spray kinda. IDK about you guys, but those aerosols leave my hair looking & feeling disgusting (so sticky!).

A while back I whipped up a DIY dry shampoo that worked wonders, but over time I have adjusted the recipe. Instead of 4 ingredients, I’ve narrowed it down to two: baking soda (absorbs oils) & cocoa powder (cause I’m brunette– if you’re blonde, just go straight up baking soda).

When your hair is starting to look greasy, just sprinkle some on your scalp, let sit, & brush through. Wham, bam, thank you ma’am. Your hair will be looking on point.

2. Clarifying Shampoo: When my hair acquires nasty ass build up (from products/environmental ick/etc.) I can tell. It’s heavy, dull, & all around blah. So, I simply add a quarter size amount to my shampoo. It removes all impurities & leaves my hair lookin Pantene perfect.

3. Brightening Face Mask: Remember the two DIY face masks I posted about here? Both of them are great but the lemon & baking soda one is seriously uhhhhmazing & totally worth repeating. Mix 1 tbsp. of baking soda + a squeeze or two of lemon, apply to skin, let sit till dry, rinse off.

You will instantly see your skin perk up & become 10x brighter. The stuff of miracles.

4.  Microderm: Store bought scrubs are 100% always too rough for your skin (major no-no). To get the prefect gentle scrub/ mini microderm session/ super soft skin, just add a tablespoon of baking soda to your daily face wash, massage in circles, & rinse. You can also do this with your body wash too!

5. Acne Treatment: Banish those blemishes w/ an easy mask of baking soda & honey. It will dry out your acne without drying out your skin (magic!). Leave on for 15 minutes & rinse.

6. Smile Sparkler: I am sure you’ve heard of this sometime in your life, but if you haven’t yet tried it your missing out big time. Once a week brush your teeth with a mixture of baking soda, lemon juice, & mashed up strawberries, let the mixture sit for 10 minutes & rinse. Take before & afters, the difference it makes is pretty amazing.

7. Spray Tan Eraser: Sadly I learned about this one the hard way, a bad self tanning experience. I got this mousse stuff that everyone was swearing by, & it ended up being a really huge fail. Thanks to trusty old google I found out that mixing lemon juice with baking soda helps lessen the bad results.

8. Nail Care: You know when you paint your nails & leave the polish on too long how your nails start to get yellow? Yea, it’s horrible. To get rid of that nasty discoloration simply scrub your nails w/ baking soda & peroxide. Instantly the yellow will banish.

I know there are tons of other great uses for baking soda, so if you’ve got one I need to know about, LMK (please!).
