I had the idea of speaking to an animal communicator (well, at the time I was calling it a “dog psychic”) about a month & a half ago to help me figure out some issues with my Bitzy girl. She’s gonna be 13 years old soon & she has been very whiney for months now. I had this lingering feeling I was not meeting her needs, & as she gets older, all I want for her is to be living her absolute best life yet.
I know there are skeptics, & I was one too, until a friend of mine told me a few years ago that his dog was all the sudden tearing up his house. Someone recommended he speak to an animal communicator & gave him a reference. He called them up & the animal communicator said almost immediately, “he wants to know what you did with the chair by the window”.
The guy used to have a white chair by the window, but it was getting so dirty from the dog that he put it away somewhere. The dog sat on that window all day watching people while he was at work. So when he took the chair away, dog was pissed. Guy got a new chair, problem solved. How can I be skeptical after a story like that?
I put my feelers out on Instagram stories & one of my lovely readers told me Jordan Younger, aka The Balanced Blonde, recently did a podcast with a REAL DEAL animal communicator. I listened, it was amazing, & hit up Jordan for her info asap.
I set up an appointment, it was amazing, & I could hardly wait to share our experience with you guys!!
Before I break down the process, I highly highly suggest you check out Miranda Alcott’s episode on Jordan’s podcast, Soul on Fire. They will answer a LOT of your questions about how animal communication works, you can hear Miranda’s amazing story (how she found out she could communicate with animals!), & you can hear her talk to Jordan’s adorable cat, Hudson.
But in the meantime, let’s cover the basics:
What is an Animal Communicator + How can an animal communicator help you or your pet?
For us normal folk, the definition of animal communication is the communication observed between humans and other animals, from non-verbal cues and vocalizations through to the use of language.
For actual Animal Communicators, it goes so much deeper than that.
Miranda Alcott, our Animal Communicator, broke it down for me pretty well. I asked her how she could work with animals over the phone, & her response kinda nailed it when it comes to how Animal Communication works:
“I communicate nonverbally with animals. This is the same as telepathic communication. The way this works is that I tune into the specific frequency of the Animal (every Being has their own frequency) much like a radio—and am able to communicate clearly back and forth and translate between the culture of the Animal and our human culture so that everyone involved better understands each other. Dogs, cats, horses, etc. all animals have their own specific culture. So in addition to facilitating a real-time dialogue nonverbally, I will also communicate the differences between our cultures so that humans can live more harmoniously with the Animals in their lives.”
This whole process helps animals and their human(s) understand each other better. It can help with behavioral issues, emotional issues, & can even help with medical issues. Miranda is well known & well respected in her field & has worked with vets as a consultant to provide information during treatment, before treatment, & to help give useful feedback during procedures.
For me, just knowing what my dogs are thinking & knowing their individual needs has been extremely beneficial & makes us feel like more responsible pet owners (although really, they are family members more than pets!). I have been able to pinpoint a lot of Bitzy’s emotional issues, & that helps me guarantee I am doing everything I can to make her happy & content.
What Happened During Our Pet Communication Session
ALRIGHT- but let’s get more specific with OUR session.
First & foremost, after the appointment was set, Miranda’s assistant sent me some homework. She needed two photos of each dog (front & side) along with a list of questions for each dog.
Zack & I had been bouncing off questions for weeks when we decided we were gonna talk to an animal communicator so this part was pretty easy for us. We didn’t want to dive into any health issues this time, so we kept it pretty behavioral. I will break it down by each dog in a sec, but you should know- Miranda waits until she is in touch with you over the phone for your appointment before looking at your questions or photos.
This is due to a sense of ethics on her end as the communication begins when she sees the photos/questions & she never communicates with animals without their human’s knowledge and consent.
Alright- now for the dogs.
Bitzy’s Dog Communication Session
Bitzy, as I said, has been whining so much lately. She always seems unsettled, & this really upset me cause it felt like NOTHING I was doing could help. It didn’t surprise me in the least when Miranda said Bitzy was the first one to start communicating.
She started off with, “help me get rid of the dog.”
Miranda knew NOTHING about Bitzy’s feelings towards Ruby & I got all of the feels. Kinda sad, but I was expecting this. A lot of our questions were actually based off of Bitzy’s negative feelings towards Ruby.
Ever since we got Ruby, Bitzy has become more agitated and territorial. So, we started here. Miranda asked Bitzy what the issue was & she communicated “they never asked or prepared me for a new dog coming in, I DO NOT want to raise a puppy, I am tired, she is annoying, I need my space, & more dedicated alone time with my humans.”
We went over this in full detail & got so many GREAT suggestions from Miranda. She said we should take her on alone adventures without Ruby, & when she is in an agitated state, we should give her some alone time in a room. She now goes on walks with JUST Dad in the evening, & when we do put her alone in a room, I was scared she’d be upset- but I always find her taking a mellow nap. It’s been pretty game changing for her, & us.
We did ask her if she was mad at us for getting Ruby, & yes, she was a little bitter… again, she wasn’t asked & this did not make her happy. On the other side of the coin, we asked if she knew how much we loved her, & she communicated “yes, I do, but I’d like more alone time with you guys”. BE STILL MY HEART (but also, break it a little).
We asked if she could be trusted alone with Ruby out of the crate, & she said no. She does NOT want that. Miranda said instead of keeping Ruby in the crate (which we have our reasons for, you will see when we get to RU!!), put Bitzy in another room alone. Again, GREAT TIPS we never thought of.
We also talked about why she is so aggressive towards other dogs. I had assumed, in my head, she had PTSD because she had been attacked, & although Miranda said she definitely does remember that horrifying experience, the problem was more me. She feels my nerves travelling through the leash, & it’s actually MY PTSD that is causing her to get aggressive. This has been big, cause now Zack gets the leash & she is soooo chill with Zack. I just can’t handle it & I may never be able to, but Miranda wants to work on that with me as well.
Lastly, I wanted to know if Bitzy & I were together in a past life. She said I definitely was, but Zack wasn’t.
Ruby’s Dog Communication Session
NOW FOR OUR RU GIRL. Oh Ru. She really is the SWEETEST dog, but she is young. So we had a whole lot of behavioral questions for this one.
First we wanted to know all about crate life. Here’s the deal. The crate is not our favorite, but it is necessary with Ruby. Only because every time we leave her out of the crate she destroys the house. We didn’t know if this was anxiety, acting out, or what?! Miranda did express she is not ready to be out of the crate, because the issue is BOREDOM. Ruby is a high energy dog, we knew that, but we had no idea the boredom cause her to tear up my Moroccan pouf, internet router, & anything made of wood.
If we are to leave her out moving forward, she needs to have gone to the park first. So she is worn out. But on top of that, Ruby had some things to say about her relationship with Bitzy. Ruby voiced she can’t be trusted not to defend herself with Bitzy if we are not there. This of course scares me cause there is nothing worse than thinking of your dogs getting into an actual fight. Still, this is also invaluable information for us!
Another issue we have is when Ruby sees another dog- her hair goes up like a mohawk & we both get an aggressive vibe. We couldn’t tell if it was excitement, or a little bit of anger. Ruby communicated it was both, & a lot of it was picking up bad habits from Bitzy. Miranda said she needs to be socialized with animals more, which didn’t surprise me. Bitzy is not the best example for her when it comes to other dogs (Bitzy is more into humans).
Next I wanted to know how she thinks about me. The exact question was “does she consider us mom & dad, or am I the other woman?” HA. Ruby is VERY into Dad. She loves ZACK to no end. If Zack comes & sits next to me on the couch, she sits between us. She has done this since day one.
Miranda asked her what she thinks of me specifically. She communicated that she doesn’t neccesarily see us as Mom & Dad. Also that she does consider Zack her pack leader. Actually, both Bitzy & Ruby do. He is more calm, and strong, than I am (I am so emotional when it comes to them!). She said that when Zack isn’t around, there’s no one she’d rather be with than me. However she said that I need to more confident in the pack.
We also wanted to know if she liked Bitzy, or if she wished we’d get another dog she can play with. She said she likes Bitzy enough, does NOT want another dog to have to share us with (thank goodness, cause Zack really wants another one & I am not ready for 3 dogs!!!), but she does want to play more with other dogs.
Lastly, we wanted to know if she knows we are taking photos of her. Her instagram account is booming & she literally poses for us, so Miranda asked her & she said “yes she does, the camera is like eyes on her!”. Not a bad thing, she likes eyes on her, so maybe that’s why she is posing?
ALL IN ALL, we kept it pretty light this time. Honestly because I wasn’t really ready to hear if something was horribly wrong with them. I obviously want to know if they have any health issues to look out for, but I was just dipping my toes in the water!! We did however learn some amazing things about our dog, & although they weren’t all what we wanted to hear, it helps us make the adjustments needed so they are both content.
NOW- How to find a pet/dog communicator for yourself?
Well, I’d say word of mouth is your best bet & here is your word of mouth- Miranda is pretty amazing. She not only is extremely talented in her abilities, but the way she breaks it down for us to understand is amazing. She walks us through the issue & gave us so many tips on how to correct some of our biggest problems.
Plus, as you read above, a legitimate Animal Communicator CAN do it over phone so you can be anywhere in the world to work with Miranda. I guess that’s my answer for this one, Miranda is legit & anyone can reach out to her from wherever!
You can check out her website here or you can send her a DM directly on Instagram (@mirandaalcott) to book an appointment through her amazing assistant! Also, she has a ton of great videos on the New Thinking Allowed YouTube channel (Zack & I binged on these before our appointment!!). INCREDIBLY fascinating.
