10 Insta-Famous Skincare Products: Worth the Hype or Not so Much?

fashionlush, skincare products worth the hype 2018

LET’S TALK SKINCARE, K?

I am pretty much the biggest sucker which it comes to good branding, good packaging, and the Instagram hype. If it’s pink, sparkly, & my favorite blogger is swearing by it… I need it on my vanity.

… & then there it lives, sitting on my vanity, looking pretty & not being used because it made me breakout or didn’t live up to the expectations.

SO- today I am going over some very insta-worthy products your favorite influencers are raving about & determining if they are actually worth the hype, or just aesthetically pleasing on the feed. This post is not sponsored, these opinions are fully my own, & I am feeling good cause my vanity situation is so good rn. LET’S GO….

1. BYBI Mega Mist

this mist is a hyaluronic acid toner that people have been RAVING about for a hot minute now. Hyaluronic acid is the it ingredient OTM as it is known for making skin bounce & can hold 1000x it’s weight in moisture. It’s nourishing & refreshing (contains rose, orange, and lemon balm as well!)

I have been using BYBI Mega Mist for a while now- so here are my thoughts: it is definitely a GREAT toner. I was always lazy when it came to toners, but after using this product & seeing how toner REALLY cleans my skin fully, I am sold. It does give my skin some serious bounce… my only gripe is that the spray nozzle broke day one & it’s a pain in the ass to swap out the spray nozzle every time I wanna use it. That said, I am swapping the nozzle out twice a day, so I must really like it.

2. Shu Uemera Pore Finist 2 oil cleanser

I actually received 4 different oil cleansers from Shu Uemera & after researching them all, I decided the Shu Uemera Pore Finist 2 oil cleanser was the best bet for my acne prone skin. Normally, I am anti-oil cleansers on my skin because I do have some hormonal acne, but the reviews were outstanding on this product, esp. when geared toward acne. I figured I would give it a go.

My thoughts on this one: it is a nice product & gets off makeup well. A lot of people said that this products leaves them fully pore-less. I did not notice this. I don’t have huge pores though so I may not the best judge. It doesn’t leave my skin feeling super oily & does feel clean(ish), but I wouldn’t use this daily. I would use it to remove eye makeup though, I just prefer a cleanser that suds up a little.

3. silicone beauty sponge

I realize this is not a beauty product, but it ended up in the photo & is worth talking about. I have had this silicone beauty “sponge” for a while now & never used it. I am so devoted to my Beauty Blender that I was being stubborn- but finally I put it to use & I am obsessed.

Never thought I’d see the day I’d ditch my beloved Beauty Blender, but the silicone version is SO much more sanitary which has helped with my acne & doesn’t waste so much product!! I also use these to apply face masks & serums. It feels more gentle on my skin than using my fingers! Hype is real.

4. Glossier Boy Brow

There are very few products I will buy again & again, but Glossier Boy Brow is one of them. Everything you’ve heard is true. I have tried TONS of different brow gels looking for a dupe & nothing compares.

What I like about it: most gels make your brows look waxy/greasy/stuck to your head- Boy Brow is SO FLUFFY, lasts all day long, & you can layer it for a bolder brow. It really is the perfect brow product of all time.

5. Glossier Solution

Glossier knows where it’s at when it comes to marketing & branding… because I pretty much buy every thing they come out with. Every single product has so much HYPE, & the Glossier Solution is one I have been hearing so much about. The whole idea is it is a liquid exfoliator that is said to clear up acne, even out skintone, & reduce redness. I was in the market for a new exfoliator & considering this was taking over Instagram, I decided to try it.

My thoughts: Glossier, I love you, but this one is not doing it for me. If anything, there is subtle improvement from this product… but nothing knocking me off my feet. I will continue to use it until it’s finished, but I probably won’t be buying it again.

6. Bliss Makeup Melt Jelly cleanser & gel makeup remover

I am combining this into one for the sake of wanting 10 items on the list- but talking about both the jelly cleanser & gel makeup remover from the new Makeup Melt collection by Bliss.

I have tried jelly cleansers before, but this one is definitely my fave so far. Jelly cleansers are great for sensitive skin, but my issue with them is usually they don’t make my skin feel clean. The Bliss version definitely has all the benefits of a jelly cleanser (love using it on dry skin), but always leaves my face feeling super clean while not being stripped. I would say, so far, it is worth the hype.

As for the gel makeup remover, this has been a real game changer for my undereye situation. I have genetically dark under eyes, so the fact I can never get mascara fully off my face doesn’t help. This gel remover is super effective, cooling (great for puffiness), & I love the fact it is not an OIL but still super smooth so there is no pulling or tugging on that sensitive area. Definitely my favorite eye makeup remover I have had in a while.

7. Bliss Mighty Marshmallow mask

I have been seeing people using this pink marshmallow mask all over Instagram & since I am addicted to face masks, I had to try it. It’s fluffy, whipped, contains marshmallow root for brightening, & is said to give a “lit from within” glow.

The glow that everyone was talking about on Instagram. The glow was real guys. I am usually all about sheet masks, but this marshmallow mask is my new go-to of the moment. I am already halfway through the mask & now I wanna do it as soon as I am done with this post. Bliss, as a whole, worth the hype.

8. Drunk Elephant C-Firma day serum & Framboos glycolic night serum

Moving onto a Drunk Elephant moment. I have a few DE products to discuss, starting w/ the RAVED about day & night serums.

The C-Firma day serum is a potent vitamin c serum/antioxidant complex to help neutralize free radicals for up to 72 hours (!!!). DE keeps the pH level at 3.3 as they believe that is the key to making sure the product won’t irritate your skin & they really focus on clean & potent ingredients. My thoughts after using this product for a couple of weeks: I like it, but think I need to use it a bit longer to the results people are raving about. It definitely does give my skin an INSTANT wake up call in the AM before I put on makeup, which for now, is enough for me to keep using it.

After I wash & tone my face, the next step in my routine has been the DE Framboos glycolic night serum. It is a night serum that contains 12% AHA/BHA to exfoliate your skin. Similar concept to the Glossier Solution, but WAY MORE EFFECTIVE. I can already say, worth the hype. It’s a gel like texture & when I wake up in the morning my skin tone is worlds better. If I forget it for one night, I can tell the second I wake up.

9. Drunk Elephant Sukari Baby Facial

This is actually the product I am most excited to talk about- THE BABY FACIAL. How could you not want to try a product that insinuates it will give you baby skin? I have used a lot of at home peel products & ALWAYS had irritation… which made me slightly scared to use this product.

I am at a point where my hormonal acne is being so stubborn, that I will try anything once. The first time I put it on, it stung a bit which scared me slightly, but it faded quickly. It is strong for sure- but the results were almost immediate & the next morning the bumps along my jawline were either gone or MUCH less pronounced. If there is anything worth the hype on this list, this product is it. You’re only supposed to use it once a week, but I count down the days between weeks till I get to use it again!

10. Drunk Elephant Marula oil

Okay so this product is one everyone says to use AFTER the Baby Facial & even people who aren’t down w/ oils were saying this as the best oil ever. I actually got the Drunk Elephant Acid Trip set so all of the above products I tested, this one included, came in that set.

I don’t use a lot of oils because they make me break out, but decided to be brave with this one & I’m happy because it did not make me break out!! It is the perfect, soothing, product to apply after the Baby Facial.  It absorbs so quickly into my skin & leaves a lasting glow. I don’t know oils well, but I do believe this is an exceptional oil.
