[ pink & black, lately. ]
This weekend was great… until it wasn’t.
My sister & I spent all of Saturday together, a girls day out, much needed for the both of us.
First stop, Zion market. Zion is an Asian grocery store that is basically a shopping mall, complete with a food court. We got Pho for lunch & for dessert, boba tea w/ Cocohodo’s (the most insane walnut pastry things). Made a pit stop in The Face Shop, where I go when I need a Korean beauty fix, & then off to the Korean spa.
I told you guys all about the Korean Spa here, but let me just revisit how amazingly relaxing this place is. You get naked, chill in the hot tub, lay in the warm clay room (detox is everything), visit the sauna, & then you get your number called. When called you get scrubbed raw, drenched in milk, shampooed, & massaged like you have never been massaged in your life. I know, it doesn’t sound that relaxing, but trust me- you will leave that place with a whole new level of zen you didn’t even know existed.
After that, my sister & her BF made me a yummy salmon dinner. We played with Penny (my sisters sweet kitty), gave her some new toys we got at Daiso (the Asian 99 cent store), let her try salmon for the first time, & called it a night. When I got home, I fell into the deepest sleep & didn’t wake up till 1:30pm the NEXT DAY!
I woke up to missed calls from my whole family, so when I called my sister back to explain how the spa sesh resulted in the best/longest night sleep ever, she stopped me. I could tell she was crying, my heart immediately dropped.
Penny didn’t come home the previous night… & in the morning they discovered she was attacked by a coyote. Penny died that night & my heart was broken for them. Even writing this whole thing out is bringing tears to my eyes. Losing a pet, especially in a tragic way, is painful in a way that I can’t even describe.
The whole thing brought up a lot for me & it was just a very emotional Sunday. Seeing my sister hurt, seeing her boyfriend hurt, putting Penny in her final resting place, remembering when I lost my puppy 10 years ago in a very unfortunate way, coming to terms with the fact one day I will lose Bitzy (the thought of this literally makes me break down into uncontrollable tears), it was just… a lot.
There really is no point to this “story”, other than the fact that you really don’t know what is going to happen when… so appreciate the small stuff, like feeding your sisters cat salmon out of your hand. Who knew that small moment would now be such a big memory to me.
Oh, & kiss on your pets tonight. They are the world.
x, E
p.s. all these pictures were taken pre-Sunday, just wanted to share a bit of brightness in this sad post :(

Peach Sake Emulsion… the best part of my Korean Skincare routine!!
The other week I was telling my acupuncturist about my chronic insomnia & she recommended I read this article.
To sum it up for you, being on the computer emits a LOT of blue light. During the day, blue light is all good. If you continue to absorb that artificial blue light when the sun goes down, you are messing up your circadian rhythms, which in turn puts a stop to melatonin production (aka what helps you sleep).
This is where the sexy orange glasses come into play, they are your blue light blockers! They take some getting used to, but if it helps my sleep, I’m all for it.
