DIY Almond Milk

Any of you out there still drinking regular old cows milk on the daily? If so, this post is going to change your mind reallll quick.

Here are just a few reasons why you should absolutely ditch that cold-glass-of-cow-milk-a-day habit… yesterday:

» Contrary to “Got Milk” ads, there is no solid proof drinking milk builds strong bones/prevent osteoporosis.

» Humans are the only mammals who drink another species milk past infancy.

» Cow milk’s purpose is to help the calfs grow, which is why it’s so high in saturated fat. Saturated fat for adults can lead to heart attacks. 

» Milk is famous for causing sinus & stomach problems (even if you’re not technically “lactose intolerant”). If you are often suffering from one or both of the above, cut out dairy for a week. Problem solved.  

» It is also associated with prostate & ovarian cancer.

» Newsflash, you can get the same amount of protein/calcium/& Vitamin D elsewhere in your diet (google it, the options are endless). 

» Word on the street, milk has pus in it. SICK!

IDK about you guys, but that’s more than enough reasons to keep me far away from that shit for a lifetime. I’m perfectly content w/ my yummy homemade (yes, homemade!) almond milk.

I first stumbled across this whole concept of making your own milk on Mary Ellen Skye’s Instagram (remember her from this post?!). She posted a picture w/ the caption “french pressing my almonds… best almond milk I’ve ever tasted”, & I immediately knew I had to try it for myself ASAP.

Really though, this almond milk trick has been a total game changer for me. It’s so easy to make, I actually know what is in my glass of milk, & it tastes freaking delicious!!

FRENCH PRESS ALMOND MILK

raw | vegan | paleo | serving size: 2.5 cups | lasts: 2 days in the fridge

» 1 cup organic almonds
» 3 cups filtered water or coconut water
» french press
» optional: cinnamon


1. Cover your almonds with water & let soak 1-2 days (the longer you let soak, the creamier it will be).

2. Once done soaking, rinse your almonds with cold water & blend together with 3 cups of filtered water (or coconut water!).

3. Pour the mixture into your french press & slowly press down the plunger to seperate the almond pulp from the milk.

Optional: sprinkle w/ cinnamon for some added sweetness!
