Beauty Do or Don’t: Matching Your Nails to Your Toes?

mani pedi mis-matched or matching

I recently, as you may have noticed here , decided to test out the stiletto nail shape. So far, I am pleased. Def. still getting used to them, not sure how long I will keep them, but for now… it’s a fun change. Kinda edgy, kinda Kylie… it’s working for me.

Not to mention, painting my nails has gotten much more exciting. These nails give me a larger canvas to get weird (with added thanks to this book), muchhhh easier to paint, & for some reason- they always look good… even if I go outside the lines a little.

That said, after all the nail fun, it’s time to paint my toes. Now I am lazy, and don’t feel like picking out a color that goes well with my mani. Too much effort, I just paint them the same color as my nails.

Question for you guys is- am I making a beauty faux pas? Is it tacky to match your mani pedi? Do you prefer mis-matched mani & pedis? Drop me a comment and LMK your thoughts!!

  1. i’m not one for matchy-matchy stuff but i def do not think it’s tacky to match mani/pedi! you do you!

  2. I was JUST annoying my boyfriend with this same topic the other day. (He hates when I paint my nails because I’m OCD and it always take me forever). I have always matched my mani’s and pedi’s, but I have been reading in mags/Lauren Conrad.com that this is a beauty no-no these days? I tried out the whole complimenting colors thing with my last at home mani/pedi.. and it looks good I guess. I would just rather not have to think about it so much! Haha

    1. I am with you 100%, the problem is- I don’t want to sit and figure which two colors match and which two don’t. Ughh… such issues ;)

    1. Valid point :) I get sick of colors easily too, I think next mani/pedi I am gonna try to mix it up :)

  3. I have this problem sometimes. What I do is stick to a tone – warm or cool – for both my mani and pedi. They’re both a shade of pink/orange/coral for a while.
Then I’ll switch to both being blues and greens, and change the colors while still staying in that pallet. I find they will always match that way

I hope you find a solution to this issue that plagues us all

    1. Sorry I am late to the discussion–very late, but, it seems you and I are going about the nails the same way.
I used to be 100% matchy on the whole mani/pedi, but have recently started going within the same color pallet and enjoy it much more as I like brighter colors on my toes, but a more subtle look for my fingers. Sticking to the same color pallets actually offers a wide variety for changes. Also, I also do, for example, a subtle pink on my fingers and a brighter pink on my toes. That option also offers a huge variety of change.
      Happy painting, ladies!!

  4. I always mix my fingers and toes. I actually love the debate of which colors to chose. I obsess over the colors. It is a good mental interruption from the craziness of the rest of my day.

  5. I always get the same nail color because it just bugs me about not having the same color. Although today I really wanted to try hologram on my finger nails and I knew for sure I didn’t want it on my toes because that’s just too much and now I am so sad about how my nails look right now. I ended up not liking the hologram color and now I am also very upset about my mis-matched nails. #girlstruggles lol on the bright side my eyebrows turned out really nice :/
