I thought about calling this post ‘a day in the life of a blogger’ because… well, TBH… the SEO would’ve been better, but for some reason I just wasn’t feeling it.
Blogging is my full time gig & is a huge part of my day… but not all of it. There is the mundane stuff, the cool stuff, the boring stuff, the cleaning up dog shit stuff, ya know. All that life stuff.
So, I thought it might be kinda fun to take you guys through two different, yet very typical days in my work week.
disclaimer: things appear more fun than they are… thanks to Instagram (but you already know that).
The Go-Go-Go Days
8:30am: On a busy day, I typically have a shoot lined up with my photographer- so the morning hustle is real. I tend to set my alarm a little earlier & do everything in my willpower to not hit snooze.
8:45am: quick breakfast/email session. On these days, I have Zack grab me something quick to eat on his daily coffee shop run. Granola w/ fruit & yogurt or chia seed pudding + a dirty rose chai is my current go-to. While I eat, I respond to emails.
9:30am: start getting ready. Shower, blow dry, makeup, hair, & pack up all the looks I will be shooting that day.
11:30am: my fab photographer will come over & we will drive to the first shooting location, which we usually decide last minute. we spend about 30 minutes at each location, I change in the car, & then we find a new spot to shoot at.
3:30pm: get home, drop the photos off on my computer, check emails again, & get ready to go to my trainer to workout. I have to have a trainer or else I’d never workout cause I have the willpower of a sloth.
6:30pm: after I failed at making dinner last week, Zack has officially taken on all cooking responsibilities (PRAISE!!)- so he will make dinner. Probably something like salmon & quinoa or spaghetti squash & turkey meatballs. I am very anal that I have a protein with each meal, & he is sweet enough to oblige.
7:30pm: take a bath. I have to take a bath every single night. I think it’s an OCD tick.
9:30pm: work on blog-doo, our blog design company. I will check on our clients site status with our developers, answer emails, work on setting up sites, play around with graphic design for clients logos, etc. etc.
11:45pm: edit photos + write/publish the following days post. Some bloggers do this day of, but I personally like to have this done the night before because who knows what the day will bring. It just makes life easier, in my opinion. It does take me a while though to write a post- once it’s all said & done, I’d say 2 and a half hours total. EEK
1:30am: go to bed, but probably still not tired because I clearly have really messed up my circadian rhythms w/ the late night computer use BUT I just work so much better at night. Not sure it’s the healthiest sleep pattern, but it seems to work for me.
The Slow Days
10:30am: wake up ;). I typically stagger my slow days & busy days, so on the slower days allow myself to sleep in since I am probably drained from the day before.
10:45am: clean up shit (like real shit), probably. Since I slept in, Zack most likely left for the day, & Ruby freaks out when Zack leaves and shits herself from nerves. Lucky me, I am woken up with a pile of diarrhea most days when Zack leaves before I wake. I am again, very OCD, so this cleaning process takes me forever w/ hot water & bleach.
11:00am: make a smoothie, or egg wrap. I can cook breakfast….sorta.
11:30am: check emails & work on blog-doo.
1:45pm: get semi-ready for the day, which will most likely consist of running errands- chiropractor, drugstore, lunch on the go, pick up dog food, get an Instagram (yes, this is a daily to-do in my world), car wash kinda day. I keep a running to-do list, so these are the days I tackle it.
4:30pm: come home & get ready to go workout. I just started Orange Theory, so on my slow days I will go for a major sweat sesh.
5:30pm: feed the dogs, clean the house, put away laundry, take my nightly bath where I more often than not respond to emails, upload something Instagram, & read. My bath time on the slow days lasts a little longer.
6:30pm: Zack may make dinner, but also we may order in. We most likely will order in. Sushi is a regular occurrence. Or vegan thai food… but we’re not vegan, it’s just less greasy than the regular thai food place.
7:30pm: work on blog-doo some more.
9:45pm: write the following days post (rinse, repeat- always writing posts the night before!)
12:30am: watch a show in bed, then read my book, until I fall asleep. Again, I am an insomniac.
So there you have it- my go day & my slow day. The go day is always fun, & the slow day is always a nice breather to really buckle down at my desk & get shit done. Blogging is a balance & at the end of the day I think the most important thing to remember is not to get caught up in all the glitz & glam and make sure you are staying true to your audience & keepings your content game strong.
Not sure how this all turned into an inspirational blog tip post, but I am going with it I suppose.

Thank you Yara!
I found your blog through another one of your posts.. the Jade roller one.. and I’ve been hooked ever since! I’m relatively new to the blogging game and so I appreciate you sharing your tips and even your “days” are really helpful! I work full-time and I have a 17 month old (with another on the way!) but I love blogging on the side and your blog is one of my sources of inspiration. :)
thank you so much babe!!! would love to check out your blog- what’s the URL? xo
Oh thank you! The design is really simple since I wanted to focus on content this month, but hopefully the re-design will happen this month! :) tuesdaychronicles.com
