DIY Necklace Holder (for the minimalist)

Necklaces are great to wear, but the WORST when it comes to organizing.

Moving out of my old place, Zack & I literally spent 2 hours untangling my 900 necklaces & figuring out a way to move them so that they wouldn’t get tangled again. I neatly secured them in a jewelry roll & hoped for the best. Surprise surprise, when I finally got around to unpacking them yesterday (was putting this one off in a big way), they were completely tangled again. Good times.

After they were free of each other, it was time to find a place to put them. I looked around on Amazon, but all the necklace holders I found were such an eyesore that took up precious shelf space. So, I dragged Zack to the hardware store & decided to make my own.

It’s chic, minimalistic, functional AF, cheap to make, & lays flat against the wall to make room for my shoes (that storage situation is still a work in progress).

Check out how to whip it up below & if you’ve got any cool ideas for bracelets/rings/earrings… that’s next on my list, so let a sister know. x, E

DIY Necklace Holder

» copper pipe

» bakers twine

» small S hooks

» ketchup & cotton pad

1. First & foremost, shine up your copper pipe! I recently found out that ketchup, thanks to the vinegar, takes all the grime off copper. Fill a small bowl with ketchup, grab a cotton pad, & go to town shining up your copper. It will get dark again in time, so feel free to do this whenever your copper isn’t looking fresh.

2. Feed through your bakers twine, about a foot long, & tie in a knot.

3. Hang on the wall, wrapping your yarn around the nail twice so it stays in place & place your hooks evenly spaced.

4. Untangle your 500 necklaces & hang on your newly made minimalistic necklace holder.

  1. If shining copper with ketchup works because of vinegar……
couldn’t I just use vinegar to shine the copper?

I ask because I have tons of vinegar in my house, and not as much ketchup. Also, vinegar alone is much cheaper than ketchup.

Thanks! That is a gorgeous way to store / showcase necklaces! I love this idea as I’m trying to make my own.

    1. I think ketchup is easier because for some reason I hear if using vinegar you need to boil it first & add salt, ketchup is just a few swipes!

  2. What kind of S hooks are those and where did you get them? I’ve been to 5 different hardware places and cannot find the curved and squared on one end hook. It’s driving me mad. I’m hoping to get this done as part of a V-day present. Gah!
