“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful” -William Morris
Working from home is a double edged sword. Obviously, getting to answer emails in my pajamas while catching up on the latest Vanderpump Rules drama (a.k.a. Kristen’s bat shit behavior) is awesome, but it’s also full of distractions. Which is why it’s crucial to my productivity that I keep my environment super simple.
SO, this past week I channeled my inner Swede (they’ve got minimalist home decor on lock), headed off to IKEA & transformed my somewhat distracting space (seen here) into a total zen zone.
I may not be a master in minimalism just yet, but I do have a few helpful tips to help you get on the road to embracing a more minimalistic mentality::
» Ditch the color. White is always your best bet, but you can also include some grey/tan/black. If you literally can’t live w/o color, I suggest picking one & using it extremely sparingly.
» Look around at all your furniture. If it never gets used, say bye bye. Less furniture = more open space, & in the world of minimalism, open space is your BFF.
» Clear your surfaces. You keep the juicer on the counter hoping you will use it, but your not using it, so put that hideous eye sore away.
» Accent decor is okay, just don’t over do with tons of tsotchkes. My accents of choice for the coffee table: small cacti plants in white pots, a few color coordinated books (black & white), & rad snowy turquoise coasters.
» Don’t just organize, purge. Organizing is great, but if you’re organizing junk you don’t need, you’re probably a hoarder.
» If there are some things you can’t stand looking at, but aren’t ready to toss for good (i.e. an heirloom), store it away. I just got a bed with storage underneath, which has been a total game changer!
» Make your bed the second you wake up. No excuses. An unmade bed is my pet peeve & it makes everything look 10x messier.
That’s it, just a few simple tips to help you live a simpler life! If you guys have any minimalistic hacks to share, please LMK & I’d love to hear what you think of my new “less is more” home decor!!

I became obsessed with coasters and serving “slabs” similar to the ones you have listed by Rablabs but they were running upwards of $100, even $300, dollars so I had some DIY fun and made my own. I purchased a slab of marble and hammered out organic-looking pieces in the sizes I wanted. I finished them off by taping off the tops and spray painting the sides white.
Sounds amazing <3 great DIY project!
Great tips. I really love minimalist styling – one, because it looks great two, because it supports the mentality of living with less, but I also do like a bit of the crowded bohemian look too – something in between is prob. my favorite.

Yes! That sounds lovely– I too love the idea of living with less :)
I’ve been addictted to Vanderpump Rules this season. The words “bat shit” come out of my month literally a dozen times each episode. hah
Your spaces are looking great. I think I need those coasters.
Haha- Kristen has totally lost her marbles eh?! Oh & yes, the marble coasters are my fave <3 x, E
I love the whites, they are just crisp and fresh looking. :) Minimalism rocks.
