Purple Shampoo Pt. 2

fashionlush, lush cosmetics, purple shampoo

Since my previous purple shampoo post (specifically for brunettes) sparked so much interest in so many of you brass-hating babes, I figured it was a good time for follow up, especially since I have found the holy grail of purple shampoo & have been through some hair hell recently.

Rewind to two months ago…

I was on a serious mission to grow out my hair to it’s virgin state & swore of color for life, but I was about to leave for Copenhagen & I literally couldn’t deal with my roots any longer, so I made an appointment at the salon. I still wanted to grow my hair out, so I decided to get me some grombré. Grombré, which is a word I may or may not have made up, is the mix between grey & ombré. Since I hate orange hair more than life itself (not talking red heads cause that’s gorg, I’m referring to that tacky orange brass), I am all about the whole grey hair trend.

After 5 hours of bleaching my hair twice & toning it three times, it was kind of grey-ish… but not quite what I envisioned. I knew it was going to be a process with many more sessions in the chair, but sadly my hair got pretty damaged from all the bleach, so it looked like I was gonna have to stick with the semi-grombré until I could bring some health back into my tresses.

Immediately, it started getting brassy. I knew it would, it always does, but I started to freak. None of my go-to purple shampoos were helping, the damage was not cute, & I was desperate. SO, I reverted to Instagram.

I sent out an SOS to all my lovely followers, & a lot of you recommended the same thing, LUSH Cosmetics. Mainly the Daddy-O purple shampoo, the R&B hair moisturizer, & the American Cream conditioner. Since you guys are basically my most trusted companions who I love dearly (yes, you guys are so freaking awesome), I dragged Zack to the mall on a Friday night (rager) to pay a visit to LUSH.

Umm, OMG, how did I not know about this magical place? It’s like a playground for ladies, & even Zack was oohing & aahing over the bath bomb experiments taking place in the store & the millions of soaps displayed like gourmet cheese in a deli. Once we made our way through the entire store smelling everything, I grabbed the above three products + some bath bombs (which is odd since I don’t even have a bath) & waited in the ridiculously long checkout line. Apparently we weren’t the only ones raging at LUSH on a Friday.

Once I got home, I couldn’t wait to get in the shower. I lathered on the shampoo, let it sit, conditioned like cray, let it sit, towel tried, rubbed in some R&B, & blow dried my hair. In just one wash my hair was soft soft soft & soooo much more silvery. I couldn’t believe it, Zack couldn’t believe it, we did a little happy jig about it.

I only bought small sizes of the products to start, considering I literally have more hair products than 10 salons combined, but I have already ordered more & if they sold it by the gallon- I’d buy that too… & swim in it.

Yes, I am that obsessed.

Daddy-O: This product was created by one of the founders of LUSH, Mark Constantine. He is a hair color expert & originally whipped this product up to keep his silver hair nice & silver.

It’s featured ingredient is Violet leaf, it smells freaking amazing, & it seriously works like you wouldn’t believe. I always like to let my purple shamp sit for 5 minutes before rinsing.

American Cream: this creamy conditioner totally smells like strawberries milkshakes. It contains honey to make hair silky smooth, lavender to clarify the scalp, & oranges to soften up rough ends.

R&B: this is pretty much the same thing as skin moisturizer, but for your hair. It’s great for smoothing away frizz & flyaways thanks to it’s combo of organic avocado butter, oatmeal, olive oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, & candelilla wax.

Depending on my mood, I either put a dime size amount on damp hair, dry hair, or both.

As you can see in the above photo, the brass is toned down BIG time, & my hair actually looks smooth.

This new regimen has actually brought back so much health back into my hair that I am now able to go back to the salon to work on my grombré! Yayyyy.

A few other tips I want to mention: I sleep with my hair in a claw clip on a satin pillow to prevent breakage & I dust my own ends with teeny tiny scissors. Your hairdresser may not like me for telling you to cut your own hair, but dusting off a few split ends every now & then keeps my hair looking fresh between haircuts.

Any more tips you guys swear by that I should try? Considering it was all of you who introduced me to LUSH, I want to hear anything/everything you guys have to reccomend!

Happy Friday. x, E

  1. OMG the Lush addiction is so real! god speed to your bank account :) I use Clairol shimmer lights as my purple shampoo but it’s soooo drying. Gotta try daddy-o!

  2. This shampoo is seriously the BEST ever. I will absolutely check out that conditioner. Lush is so great – another great product there is their “feeling younger” skin tint. It seriously makes your skin look unreal. I mix it with my BB cream, use it as a highlighter, or eye shadow. You should check it out, it is SO pretty!

    1. Eeek! Checking it out now- obsessed with al things LUSH! It’s pure magic. x, E

  3. I love Lush products and seeing as I want to go blonde soon, this would be an especially great product for me to try. The next time I am at the mall, I will be sure to stop inside Lush and ask them about this. Thanks for the idea!
